It may not be readily evident to all the Broadcom fans (?) but the STA driver applies to one group of cards and b43 applies to another wholly separate group.

I'll report the Debian info when I get a chance to hit the Lenovo and fire up the VM (I'm on a different PC at the moment).I wonder if the Broadcom wl driver is causing the problem, even with the USB dongles. But as I stated earlier, that didn't work. I thought if I put a USB device into the mix, that anything related to the Broadcom problem would be avoided. I've uninstalled and reinstalled drivers. Common denominator is the message, "Wireless disabled by hardware switch." Lots of wild goose chases to fix the problem. Lots of people and threads complaining they lost their wireless and can't get it back, and it seems especially bad with Broadcom chipsets. And as I mentioned earlier in this thread, this is clearly a common problem.
